Our European – inspired clothing and accessories are designed by Grace Sandoval a native Peruvian Artist with Spanish background who currently lives in Stockholm. Grace’s Purpose is to empower Andean women in continuing the Pre-Hispanic textile heritage, searching for an economic and social impact.
Alpaca is one of the most beautiful South American camelids. related to the Llamas, Guanacos and Vicuñas. The Alpaca is a high quality fiber that keeps warm and cozy in high mountains temperatures. In ancient times, alpacas textile were valued more than gold or silver, unlike the precious metal the european coveted, and signified the wearer’s high social status and political power. The Pre-Hispanics and Incas gave textiles as the highest form of tribute gift. Textiles played an important role in Andean society since at least 3000 BCE. Textile arts were extremely labor intensive, required extraordinary skill, and consumed a vast amount of materials. A single tunic might require between 6 to 9 miles of different colored fibers.
Baby alpaca is the most sustainable and finest luxury fiber of the world better than cashmere: biodegradable, softer, durable, lighter, warmer and stylish; overall products with alpaca is cruelty free (the shearing process does not hurt or injure the animal).
Hilar is a process of transformation and cohesion that creates cultural bonds; It is therefore; that we are an interdisciplinary community of spinners, weavers and artist who, united by the thread of life, make tangible the Andean spirit of the Andes.
Hilar creates relationships in harmony with the persons we love, with our environment and with nature. The whole experience of Hand-crafted: hand spinning, knitting and embroidery was an Art work in progress transforming just not every fiber into a thread, but also to transform each women life even for the own designer’s life.
